A day without creating is a failed day. That is what I live by. Art, for me, is a way of life. Art is a practice in finding our humanity and exploring the world. I consider myself an illustrator before I’m a painter because I believe in rooting ourselves in the basics. My style is often in only black and white and clearly drawn, a stark departure from the majority of murals. I believe this disarms people to draw them in. This is the same reason I use animals as my subjects. And why I incorporate pipes into many of my pieces; to illustrate the inner workings of the walls the art is either painted on or displayed on top of. I want my art to make people pause, to think, to really engage, and ultimately to relate to it. It is that shared humanness in art that drives me. It is digging below the surface of the everyday that is essential.
